The Family Housing Program : The Greater Richmond Interfaith Program Family Housing Program (FHP) started out with humble beginnings as the Emergency Winter Shelter Program. It was a revolving, cold-weather shelter operated by GRIP and all of the partnering member congregations from 1993 to 2005. In 206, the Winter Shelter Program was able to end its church surfing and acquire a permanent home when funding from the from the member congregations, government and private donors all came together to build the 65 bed-shelter facilities on the 2nd floor of the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP) sited located at 165 22nd Street in Richmond California.
The Greater Richmond Interfaith Program Family Housing Program provides a safe and clean environment for homeless families ensuring that all residents receive equal treatment and access to all services. Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP) realize that clients entering the program are experiencing a traumatic time in their lives and may feel overwhelmed. GRIP staff treats all clients with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Since July 1, 2006, GRIP has been providing on site shelter, meals, basic hygiene needs, case management, housing advocacy, benefits application assistance, money management, parents classes, counseling and child care. GRIP partners with other community based organizations to provide education, employment training & job search assistance, health care, mental health care, and substance abuse treatment.
The program consists of men, women and children co-existing under one roof. We are committed to providing families a temporary safe haven and enough support to achieve goals of permanent housing and self sufficiency. On July 1, 2017, the Family Housing Program celebrated 12 years of operation. This is a great accomplishment of being able to shelter over 1,000 families.
