HOUSING SABBATH
“Housing Sabbath” will be held May 15-17, 2009 by many faith traditions in the East Bay; it is being promoted by East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) during affordable housing week, May 11-17, 2009. The purpose of “Housing Sabbath” is to raise awareness about the housing crisis in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. EBHO hopes that taking part in Housing Sabbath will be a meaningful and energizing experience for congregations.
Housing Sabbath is rooted in the values that we share across boundaries of religion, race, ethnicity, and gender and income level. They are the common values of shelter for all persons, respect for our neighbors, appreciation for having a home, a place to belong, support and celebration of our diversity, fairness and our commitment to justice. This Sabbath is an opportunity to initiate significant conversations about these values in our communities.
Packets containing materials to support congregations of all faith traditions in planning for Housing Sabbath are available. Contact Rev. Phil Lawson, EHBO (510) 663-3830.
